One of the more respectable trends in college football concerns the placing of decals with important initials and numbers on the back of helmets. Last night, we saw Virginia Tech wear the number “430″ to honor Hokies alumni who have given their lives for our country. Tomorrow, LSU will be getting in on the action with a “PD” decal to honor former Tigers coach Paul Dietzel, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 89.
Dietzel, who coached at three different universities – LSU, Army, and South Carolina – led the Tigers to a national championship in 1958. He also served as the school’s AD from 1978-1982.
