Today appears to be ‘Upset Saturday’ in the world of college football. Four ranked teams were already knocked off by lesser or unranked opponents (Michigan, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Northwestern) and No. 5 Stanford ironically just became the fifth.
Coming off of a big win against Washington last week, the Cardinal came out flat against Utah, and the Utes built a 27-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Stanford made a charge back, after quarterback Kevin Hogan threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Devon Cajuste to cut the lead to one score, but couldn’t come up clutch when the opportunity arose. Stanford was inside the Utah 10-yard line in the final minute, but turned the ball over on downs to seal the win for Utah.
Here is the fourth down defensive stop by Utah that ended the game:
Stanford heads home to Palo Alto to take on UCLA next weekend, while Utah hits the road to meet the Arizona Wildcats.
