Photos: Baylor Unveils Throwback Uniforms And Helmets For Texas Game

When Baylor takes on Texas this Saturday in its final home game at Floyd Casey Stadium, the Bears will be donning green/gold retro uniforms from the 1950s. The matchup could decide which team wins the Big 12 championship, should Oklahoma find a way to defeat Oklahoma State.

Jeff Barlow, BU’s Director of Equipment Services, has just given us a sneak peek of the helmets and jerseys they’ll be wearing – and they look awesome.

We’ve finally found out where ESPN’s wildly popular College GameDay show is headed next weekend: the Big Ten Championship Game. The final B1G conference matchup will feature the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes against the one-loss Michigan State Spartans at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts:

It should be a great game, as the Spartans look to play spoiler on OSU’s dream season. Michigan State will likely end up in the Rose Bowl regardless of the result, but a win would knock Ohio State out of the BCS National Championship Game picture.

There is still some serious debate raging in Los Angeles regarding the next head football coach at the University of Southern California. Many fans want Ed Orgeron to be retained and given the job — since Lane Kiffin was fired, he has led the team to a 6-2 record (although both losses were to serious rivals in UCLA and Notre Dame), and many players have publicly expressed their support for him. On the other hand, there are certainly other great candidates out there and the USC job is a very desirable one, so it is worth exploring to see who else might be interested in leading the program.

One of the many people wondering about the next head man is Keyshawn Johnson, the former USC great. He took to Twitter tonight to share his thoughts on the coaching search:

He says he would prefer James Franklin if Orgeron isn’t hired, but he didn’t give a ringing endorsement to Coach O, so it’s hard to tell who is his number one candidate. Both Franklin and Mora are having very respectable seasons at their current programs, although Johnson’s suggestion to steal Mora might actually be more of a joke.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had plenty of reasons to celebrate his own play today after a Carolina victory over Tampa Bay in which he scored three touchdowns. However, what he really wanted to talk about after the game was Auburn’s Iron Bowl win over Alabama last night. When asked about his reaction to the ridiculous final play , he broke into a smile:

“Well let’s just say, you know, it was rather exciting to see. Did I say ‘War Eagle?’ War Eagle.

That team is fun to watch, and these past couple weeks, watching those guys get big wins, versus Georgia as well as that other team, was great. And Coach Malzahn is a warrior, he’s a winner. He’s won at every level of football, everywhere he’s been, and I’m not surprised, and you guys shouldn’t be surprised either.”

Never has it been easier for fans to interact with their favorite college athletes than it is today, and we’re not quite sure that it’s a good thing . Through social media, fans can connect with players and coaches, keep up with their day-to-day activities, and send them messages, for better or for worse . Unfortunately, we’ve seen quite a bit of the “worse” popping up recently.

After USC lost to rival UCLA last night in the Battle for Los Angeles, the Trojan players have been facing questions about their heart and effort. This seems a bit ridiculous considering the turnaround that has occurred since the firing of Lane Kiffin, but it hasn’t stopped fans from doubting their team. In fact, things apparently got so bad that quarterback Cody Kessler took to Twitter with a message for those with questions:

It’s very cool that Kessler is willing to stand up for his teammates and Coach Orgeron, but it’s sad that he has to do so at all. These words obviously come from the heart, and it’s clear that the negativity has struck a chord. Props to Kessler for addressing things head on and having a good attitude about things, and hopefully his words resonate with a few people who felt the need to openly criticize the players.

Regardless of which side you were rooting for, it was impossible not to get out of your seat and start streaming at the television as you watched Auburn’s Chris Davis return a missed Alabama field goal 109 yards for a Tigers victory.
