The Philadelphia 76ers retired the jersey of the amazing Allen Iverson tonight, and many have taken to social media to reflect on their favorite ‘AI’ moments. Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony played with Iverson on the Denver Nuggets from 2006-2009, and had some heartfelt words for his former teammate on Instagram.

No word yet on whether or not Anthony has tried to bring Iverson out of retirement to play point guard for the Knicks. With the way they’ve played this year, it probably couldn’t hurt.

South Carolina may have scored the first big victory of the Frank Martin era tonight over Kentucky, but naturally it seems like some Gamecocks fans still have their mind on football season. One young Carolina fan (who had a great seat) took his opportunity on ESPN to drop a ‘five-bomb’ on any Clemson fans who may have been watching. The hand-gesture signifies South Carolina’s five straight football victories over in-state rival Clemson. Steve Spurrier must be proud.

South Carolina is going to owe the SEC $25,000. Gamecocks fans and students probably don’t care.

The Gamecocks, who had 10 wins on the season entering tonight, knocked off No. 17 Kentucky at home, 72-67. South Carolina built up a 16-point lead midway through the second half and did just enough to hold on for victory. Senior guard Brenton Williams had 24 points, with 15 of them coming from the free throw line. Kentucky, which starts five freshmen, shot just 27% overall against the Gamecocks.

Fine or no fine, you had to know that SC fans were going to rush the court. It’s been a rough season in Columbia, so at least they’re getting their moment.

The 10-win South Carolina Gamecocks scored a huge upset win over SEC powerhouse Kentucky today at Colonial Life Arena, but John Calipari was not on the court to see it. Midway through the second half, with 10:25 left in the game and the Wildcats trailing 51-39, John Calipari picked up a second technical foul and was ejected from the game:

The ejection seemed to spark something in the Wildcats, who would go on a huge run to close the gap against USC. Kentucky went on a 17-4 run to get back in the game, and had it as close as 68-67 with 22 seconds remaining, but South Carolina managed to close things out at home for the huge SEC win.

Coming into the season, most of the ACC hype centered on conference powerhouse Duke and newcomer Syracuse, but for the first time since Ralph Sampson protected the rim in Charlottesville, Virginia has clinched an ACC regular season championship.

The Cavaliers used hot shooting and their normal lockdown defense to take down No. 4 Syracuse 75-56, clinching the top overall seed in the ACC tournament in a few weeks.

After the game, UVA fans spilled onto the floor. They seemed a bit apprehensive at first, but ultimately there were plenty of Hoos on the court.

Today’s Cincinnati-UConn game featured an intense brush-up between Bearcats coach Mick Cronin and official Ted Valentine, and many feel that Valentine was over the line for aggressively getting in the angry Cronin’s face. No one is more vocal on the issue than ESPN’s Dan Dakich, who had some very pointed comments about the altercation during the broadcast of this afternoon’s Illinois-Michigan State Big 10 game. Twitter users were quick to report on Dakich’s rant:

Cincinnati and UConn are embroiled in a tight one this afternoon, and Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin is lucky he didn’t just hand UConn a few free points. After a close call, Cronin and official Ted Valentine got into a face-to-face confrontation before Cronin was restrained by three of his players. Somehow, Cronin avoided getting a technical, although it sure looks like one could have been warranted.
