The SEC is the gold standard is college football on-field performance — after seven straight national champions have hailed from the conference, there is no doubt that it is college football’s best. Some of the characteristics of SEC football are tough defenses, strong running games, and really physical play.
These same characteristics can be applied to another big-time contender this year — Stanford. Today, a reporter asked head coach David Shaw about his team being compared to the SEC, but the coach had quite an interesting response:
Ouch. It’s easy to understand why the rest of the country gets sick of hearing the SEC is better than everyone — smashmouth football can be played anywhere, after all. It will be interesting to see if any SEC coaches respond to the comments, or take them as being a little more accusatory.
