One of the storylines that has been hanging around this college football season is the potential move of Nick Saban to Texas for 2014. Now, to be clear, Saban has vehemently denied these rumors and having any interest at all, and Texas still has a head football coach after all — Mack Brown has the Longhorns 6-0 in the Big 12, currently leading the conference.
Despite the turnaround in conference play (Texas was 1-2 before Big 12 play started), many Longhorns fans believe that it is time for Brown to move on , and that the school should do whatever it takes (i.e pony up any amount of cash) to pull the best coach in college football out of Tuscaloosa. However, Mack simply isn’t ready to retire, and he points out that unless he screws up, the job remains his:
Here’s the full quote, via AL.com :
“Nick is a friend and he’s done a tremendous job at Alabama. Nick’s not trying to get my job, I mean, I know Nick. So I don’t have to worry about that. And if I do my job, there won’t be any job to be open to get, so I think that’s the other thing.”
This story isn’t going to die in the near future, but Mack is right: if he keeps winning, Saban can’t take his job, even if he really wants to. Texas plays host to No. 12 Oklahoma State in Austin this weekend — you can catch that game at 3:30 EST on FOX.
