Video: Notre Dame Star DE Stephon Tuitt Got Ejected For Targeting On Very Controversial Play

Notre Dame is currently squaring off against pesky Pittsburgh at Heinz Field, but the Irish will be without one of their best players the rest of the night. Early in the second quarter, star defensive end Stephon Tuitt was ejected for targeting after a hit on Pitt QB Tom Savage. Savage had left the pocket and was running for the first down when he saw Tuitt barreling down on him. He lowered his head in an attempt to avoid the tackle, and Tuitt and Savage collided helmet-to-helmet.
Savage was running with the ball, so he was clearly not a defenseless player, and he may have actually initiated the helmet-to-helmet contact by lowering his head, but the referees upheld the call as targeting. Here are a couple of looks at the play:
Once Tuitt was ejected, Pitt marched down the field to tie the game, 7-7.
