It is commonly acknowledged that the position of head football coach at the University of Texas is the best coaching gig in college football, and for several reasons. One, the state of Texas is perhaps the most talent-loaded in the country for recruiting, and the brand of UT makes an offer from the Longhorns almost impossible to turn down — the coach gets the pick of the litter for who he wants to add to his roster. Two, the exposure of the program is second-to-none — having an ESPN channel all to itself is pretty nice for the school.
Third, you can’t discount the passion and fervor of Texas fans. Coaches and players want to perform in front of packed, raucous crowds, and if you go to a game in Austin, you won’t be disappointed by the atmosphere — not one bit. Finally, and not the least important factor by any means, is the cold hard cash. The University of Texas has more money than it knows what to do with, and it is willing to spend it on winning football games.
For all of those reasons, Charlie Strong decided to leave a nice job at the University of Louisville to come to Texas. Today, details of Strong’s contract were released, and it appears that he got a pretty sweet deal:
It doesn’t hurt that Strong doesn’t have a buyout clause either — it appears that Texas is confident that he won’t want to leave:

It seems that UT really bent over backwards on the Strong contract, but there’s still some silver lining for Texas fans: there won’t be a second thought about Strong’s big payday if he brings the program back into contention for national titles.
