Former New England Patriots wide receiver Donte Stallworth thinks that his former coach, Bill Belichick, is wrong for speaking out against Wes Welker for his hit on Aqib Talib during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. He also said that Belichick knows as much.
Belichick told reporters Monday that it was a “deliberate play by the wide receiver to take out Aqib.” He didn’t even address Welker by his name.
Stallworth suited up for the Pats in 2007 and 2012, so he’s had the opportunity to work with Belichick in the past. Many believe that Belichick and Welker have some beef stemming from the wide receiver’s departure to Denver after last season. Stallworth seems to be echoing those thoughts if he’s claiming that the play in question was routine.
