People Are Wishing Each Other “Happy Mantiversary” One Year After The Fake Girlfriend Hoax Was Exposed
Sure, the Manti Te’o jokes have died down at this point, but that doesn’t mean that college football fans have forgotten the events of January 16th, 2013. One year ago today, Deadspin released a bombshell report that detailed how Te’o's “deceased” girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, never existed in the first place. Te’o later claimed to be the victim of a catfishing scam by his acquaintance, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo. People are actually celebrating the anniversary, err, Mantiversary, on Twitter.

All jokes aside, Te’o has done a nice job recovering from the incident. While he was drafted early in the second round (many thought he was a first-rounder) of this past year’s NFL draft, he was able to eventually become a solid contributor on defense for the San Diego Chargers in his rookie season. He’s also managed to keep his love life out of the public eye.
