Report: AJ McCarron Sitting Out Of Senior Bowl Because He Believes He’s A Top-20 Pick
While many believe that former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron should suit up in this year’s Senior Bowl to help his cause ahead of May’s NFL draft, the three-time national champion has decided to instead train for the combine on his own. Why? According to John Middlekauff of 95.7 The GAME, McCarron believes he’s going to be a top-20 pick. Reading in between the lines here, that would mean that McCarron thinks he can only do himself harm by playing in the exhibition game.
McCarron took to Twitter earlier this week with a message for those hating on his decision. While he’s been labeled as a “game manager” in the past, he has been wildly successful as a college quarterback, racking up a 36-4 record as a starter. With Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles all declaring for the draft earlier this year, it’ll be interesting to see if McCarron ends up being right.
