Spurrier Discusses Raise, Wishes College Football Players Were Paid

It’s a good offseason to be a college football coach, as many top head coaches and assistants have been receiving huge new deals in the last few weeks. Among them is South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier, who will now be making $4 million per year to lead the Gamecocks. When asked about the raise, Spurrier didn’t seem all that phased by it, saying that he wished the money that is being thrown around would go to the players:


This isn’t nearly the first time that Spurrier has spoken out about his wish for players to be paid, and he has a good point. One of the arguments against paying players is that many schools could not afford to do so, but with the great increases in coaching salaries, it appears that many schools have money to allocate to football.
