Syracuse’s Julian Whigham: “Bowl Games Are The Most Pointless Games Ever”
Syracuse was just one play away from not qualifying for a bowl game this season, as the Orange scored a season-saving touchdown in the final seconds against Boston College to notch their sixth win of the year late last month. To SU players and fans, the victory was a big deal – the program has been bowl eligible in three of the past four seasons. But cornerback Julian Whigham, who suffered a lung contusion against Florida State earlier in the year, doesn’t seem to think that bowl games matter. Check this out:
Syracuse, for the record, will take on Minnesota in the Texas Bowl later this month.
Whether or not Whigham’s opinion is common amongst college football players, he’s probably better served making it known behind closed doors. Sponsors and fans often spend a great deal of money on bowl games, so the last thing they want to hear is that the players don’t care.
