Coach K On The NCAA Tournament: “The ACC Deserves More Than 5 Bids”
Last week, we heard Kentucky coach John Calipari campaigning for his league, the SEC, to get more teams into the upcoming NCAA tournament. Monday, it was Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski doing his part to represent the ACC in the same manner. Coach K told reporters on the ACC teleconference that he believes his league should get more than five teams into the big dance – he’s thinking more like seven or eight.
The question, of course, is which teams have done enough to warrant consideration. Virginia, Syracuse, Duke and North Carolina are locks, while Pittsburgh seems to have done enough to get in. The next four teams in the standings are Clemson, Florida State, NC State and Maryland – all of which have double-digit losses and lack enough big-time wins. Barring a deep ACC tourney run by one, it’s hard to see any more than five bids going to the conference.
