Update 2: Manziel is being suspended for a secondary violation of the NCAA bylaw 12.5.2.2. Here’s the rule:
So basically, Manziel didn’t do enough to stop the sale of these items that he (allegedly) signed. Interesting.
Update: ESPN’s Brett McMurphy has just stated that he’s been given the same information. Manziel will sit the first half against Rice.
Earlier: Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel reportedly will indeed miss time on the field in 2013 as a result of the NCAA’s investigation into an alleged cash-for-autographs scandal. But according to TexAgs Senior Writer Billy Liucci, it’s only going to be one half of a game – the team’s season opener against Rice.
Liucci also goes on to explain that this seems to indicate that Manziel wasn’t found guilty of taking money for autographs. The obvious question everyone will ask? Why is he being suspended if he’s innocent?
More as we learn it.
