Video: Indiana’s Austin Etherington Ejected After This Hard Foul On Syracuse’s Trevor Cooney
We’re used to seeing ejections every Saturday as a result of the new “targeting rule” in college football, but they’re still pretty rare in college basketball. In tonight’s ACC-Big Ten Challenge opener between Syracuse and Indiana, the referees threw out Hoosiers forward Austin Etherington after a very hard foul (ruled a Flagrant-2) on the Orange’s Trevor Cooney. Here’s the clip:
When you watch the video at full speed, it looks like a fairly dirty play – especially when seeing Cooney fly into the base of the basket. But slowed down, it appears Etherington goes for the ball and maybe just hits him with the body a little more than he should have. What do you think – did it warrant an ejection?
