Part one of Manziel Mania is already in the books. While Johnny Football is still scheduled for Q&A later as part of the SEC’s Media Week, he appeared on ESPN this morning with Joe Tessitore, and addressed the issue that has been all over the media, his early departure from the Manning Passing Academy.
Johnny said he “didn’t wake up on time” for the Passing Academy, partly because he has “bitten off more than he can chew” with travel and media obligations this summer — he is simply worn down. He was adamant that it had nothing to do “anything the night prior” or any of the reports that claimed he was hung over after a night of partying.
Manziel said the decision for him to leave the camp was mutual between him and the Mannings, but he did acknowledge that “Peyton and Eli were sad to see him go.”
Throughout the interview, Manziel appeared remorseful and stated over and over again that he is trying to learn from his mistakes, admitting he hasn’t handled all of the media attention in the best manner. “The spotlight is 10x brighter and hotter than I ever thought it would be,” Manziel said. He also went on to compare himself to Justin Bieber with all of the publicity he gets.
People will still have doubts over Manziel’s explanation to the incident — we’re sure there will be follow-up questions during his interviews later.
