They say that winning solves everything. However, even after the Ducks’ 24-point victory over Washington State, Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Allioti had a problem — with WSU head coach Mike Leach. The issue? Allioti didn’t like that Leach kept his starters in the entire game, and made his quarterback keep throwing even in the final seconds of a blowout.

Is there anything wrong with playing until the final whistle? Maybe not, but Cougars quarterback Connor Halliday attempted 89 passes (!!!), setting a new NCAA record. Allioti accused Leach of playing for stats — here is some of what he had to say, courtesy of OregonLive.com :

“That’s total (B.S.) that he threw the ball at the end of the game like he did. And you can print that and you can send it to him, and he can comment, too. I think it’s low class and it’s (B.S.) to throw the ball when the game is completely over against our kids that are basically our scout team.’’

[...]

“I am kind of stunned he would keep his quarterback and crew in there. And still he threw the ball with 20 seconds left. But he did. They want stats, they got stats. But we got the most important stat and that’s the ‘W’ and we are happy about that.’’

This isn’t the first time that Mike Leach has ruffled feathers, but it really shouldn’t be too big of a deal. Leach never had his team let up, even when defeat was imminent. That being said, I do feel bad for Halliday — somebody get that kid some ice for his shoulder.
