Notre Dame fans received a bit of bad news this afternoon regarding wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, who will be suspended for the spring semester for academic reasons, but this evening they got a more pleasant surprise (for some) — the university will be switching from Adidas to Under Armour beginning next school year. Under Armour will outfit Notre Dame’s teams for all sports, per ESPN’s Darren Rovell:
Per Rovell, full terms for the deal are not yet known. School a thletics director Jack Swarbrick spoke to the school newspaper three weeks ago to talk about the potential switched — Notre Dame was looking to be the focal point of whichever brand it would opt for:
“We really need our apparel partner to embrace that concept and to treat us differently. It sounds selfish but it’s just about being a national brand. There’s one approach when you’re primarily a regional brand and a great regional brand, but we’re not. We’re a national brand and need a partner who can help fuel that.”
Swarbrick also noted that the move had nothing to do with “any dissatisfaction” from the school’s relationship with Adidas.
