Kentucky Tops First College Basketball AP Poll

Ashley is probably happy.
The Kentucky Wildcats, despite not reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2013, will be ranked No. 1 in the preseason AP Poll for 2014. That’s what happens when you land a recruiting class complete with five of the top ten players in the country.
The past two years have been a roller coaster ride for UK fans. In 2011, the Wildcats won the NCAA title in putting together one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory. But last year, despite another impressive recruiting class, Kentucky struggled most of the season and bowed out in the first round of the NIT against Robert Morris.
Michigan State, Louisville (last year’s champ), Duke and Kansas round out the top five. Here’s the entire list, which was just released:
1. Kentucky
2. Michigan State
3. Louisville
4. Duke
5. Kansas
6. Arizona
7. Michigan
T-8. Syracuse
T-8. Oklahoma State
10. Florida
11. Ohio State
12. North Carolina
13. Memphis
14. VCU
15. Gonzaga
16. Wichita State
17. Marquette
18. Connecticut
19. Oregon
20. Wisconsin
21. Notre Dame
22. UCLA
23. New Mexico
24. Virginia
25. Baylor
