One of the most important games in college basketball history was played in 1966 between the Kentucky Wildcats and Texas Western. Today, news came out that the two teams will be meeting on the hardwood again in 2016.

This afternoon, at a luncheon in El Paso, UTEP head coach Tim Floyd announced UTEP and Kentucky would be facing off to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1966 national championship game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The hope is that the game will be played in College Park, Maryland (the site of the ’66 game) but that has yet to be determined:

In the iconic matchup, Don Haskins, head coach of Texas Western (now UTEP), started five black players, which had never been done before in an NCAA championship game. The game is also the subject of the popular movie Glory Road , which was released in 2006.
