The decision by the College Football Playoff selection committee to include former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has come with much fanfare. ESPN’s David Pollack put his foot in his mouth this past Saturday, implying that women, because they don’t play football, don’t belong on the committee. Former Auburn coach Pat Dye was a bit more to the point this morning on Jox 94.5 FM. Via al.com:

“All she knows about football is what somebody told her. Or what she read in a book, or what she saw on television. To understand football, you’ve got to play with your hand in the dirt.”

Dye, who was named to the College Football Hall of Fame back in 2005, has never shied away from controversial statements. This won’t be the last we hear on the topic, unfortunately.
