Video: Northwestern Walk-On Gets Rewarded Scholarship In Front Of Team, Mom Freaks Out On Phone
According to Northwestern basketball coach Chris Collins, walk-on James Montgomery III “has done the best job of doing what he’s supposed to do,” including being the team’s best perimeter defender, through the first 12 practices of the 2013-14 season. Collins made this proclamation in a team meeting last Thursday, and then rewarded the 2-year walk-on with a full scholarship in front of his teammates.
After the meeting, Montgomery called his mother and sister to tell them the news, and they absolutely freaked out on the phone . Here’s a very cool video of the scene:
