College football fans love night games. It makes sense — having your team in prime time gives the school more exposure, and lets you really kick back to watch the game without having to worry about mowing the grass afterward. It also builds anticipation and excitement for the matchup — late games are often the best games of the day.

However, it appears that one man isn’t a huge fan of night games — or hosting them at least. Today, at the B1G AD golf tournament , Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon shot down the idea of a Michigan-Michigan State night game in Ann Arbor, citing that it is “not a good idea”, according to Nick Baumgardner of mlive.com.

However, Michigan State AD Mark Hollis thinks it would be fun:

“From our perspective, night games add a new dimension. We’ve had very good success here with Notre Dame and Boise in the past. We always listen, and then we determine which way to go.”

Brandon’s thoughts revolve around the rowdiness and intensity of the rivalry — giving fans another eight hours to booze up before the game could potentially lead to a lot of easily avoidable problems.

Personally, I agree with Hollis — a night game between the two programs would be a whole bunch of fun. Having been at Michigan for Notre Dame-Michigan under the lights in 2011, I can attest that Ann Arbor can successfully play host to a night game with a serious rival. I’d like to see this night game happen, even if it must take place in East Lansing, which is still being discussed.
