The UCLA Bruins defeated USC tonight in the Battle for Los Angeles, and nobody was more excited than head coach Jim Mora. He was glowing in his postgame interview for ABC, and he specifically raved about his quarterback, Brett Hundley.

In fact, he tried to get Hundley to announce on national television that he would be returning for another season:

Was this wishful thinking by Mora in the heat of the moment, or did he basically let the cat out of the bag on a decision that Hundley has already made? We don’t think that a decision has been made officially, but now there is pretty good reason to believe that Hundley could return in 2014.

After Tommy Rees Threw Another Game-Ending INT, The Fans Came After Him Again On Twitter sexandsecretss.blogspot.com

sexandsecretss.blogspot.com ® After Tommy Rees Threw Another Game-Ending INT, The Fans Came After Him Again On Twitter

By this point in Tommy Rees’ career, Notre Dame fans know exactly what they are going to get from him. He runs a fairly decent offense and wins most of his games, but in the biggest games each season he has a bad habit of turning the ball over. Tonight against Stanford, Rees threw for two touchdowns but also had two interceptions — meaning he has thrown multiple interceptions in all four of Notre Dame’s losses this season. The second pick essentially sealed the win for Stanford:

As if Tommy didn’t feel bad enough for throwing the interception, “fans” on Twitter were apparently compelled to tell him awful he should feel. This isn’t the first time that this problem has surfaced for Rees, but it appears to be getting worse as his Notre Dame career comes to a close (we’ve only included tweets without horribly foul language or serious slurs, and they are still terrible):

Honestly, Tommy should probably get rid of his Twitter, at least for the rest of the season. No college football player should have to endure this type of harassment for trying their best, but it’s apparent that “fans” can’t help themselves from being awful human beings after losses. At the end of the day, football is just a game.

sexandsecretss.blogspot.com ® Video: An Egregious Targeting Call Against Stanford Helped Set Up A Notre Dame Touchdown

The targeting rule in college football needs to be changed, plain and simple. Tonight, we saw another horrible flag thrown, this time against Stanford as the Cardinal take on Notre Dame.

Irish QB Tommy Rees passed to tight end Troy Niklas in the flat, who looked to turn and run toward the end zone. As he was making his cut, Niklas slipped while Stanford cornerback Alex Carter was trying to make the tackle. As a result, Carter hit Niklas high on his shoulder (he didn’t hit Niklas’ head), which drew a flag for targeting. There was simply no way that Carter could have anticipated the slip from Niklas, however:

After reviewing the hit, Carter wasn’t ejected, but obviously the penalty still stood. Notre Dame scored a touchdown just two plays later, make the score 21-13.

Stanford has now extended its lead, and leads the Irish 24-13 late in the third quarter.

Auburn AD Jay Jacobs Says “It’s Impossible” That A 1-Loss SEC Champion Gets Left Out Of BCS Title Game sexandsecretss.blogspot.com

sexandsecretss.blogspot.com ® Auburn AD Jay Jacobs Says “It’s Impossible” That A 1-Loss SEC Champion Gets Left Out Of BCS Title Game

After Auburn beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl today in ridiculous fashion, the Tigers are headed to Atlanta next week for the SEC Championship Game. It is unclear which team the Tigers will be playing (either Missouri or South Carolina), but Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs is already ready looking past that game and worrying about the school’s chances of playing in the BCS title game:

Auburn entered today fourth in the BCS standings behind Alabama, Florida State, and Ohio State. Of course, Alabama will drop, leaving OSU, FSU, and Auburn jockeying for the two spots. The Buckeyes and Seminoles are both undefeated, so they certainly feel that they should be in the championship game, no questions asked, but if you ask Jacobs, it’s still more impressive to have one loss while battling through the SEC than it is to come out of the Big Ten or ACC blemished.

There is certainly going to be a ton of debate on this exact issue for the next week, so be prepared to hear both sides of the argument again and again. It will be very interesting to see how the BCS standings look when they are released tomorrow night.

The 2013 Iron Bowl ended in the most dramatic fashion imaginable , as Auburn returned a missed Alabama field goal 109 yards for the game-winning score with no time left on the clock. Auburn fans were elated, Alabama fans were deflated, and most of the college football world was just left shocked.

Besides the Tigers, nobody was more excited than the Ohio State Buckeyes, who are hoping that they are now in the front seat for a BCS National Championship Game berth. They were actually watching the Iron Bowl on the team bus on their way home from Ann Arbor, and absolutely freaked out after the final play.

Here’s a video, via OSU WR Frank Epitropoulos:

The win was huge for Ohio State, but now the Buckeyes still have to hope that they don’t get passed by Auburn. I’m sure that they will be glued to the TV tomorrow night when the new BCS standings are released.

Two weeks ago, Auburn knocked off Georgia on a 73-yard “Hail Mary” play that gave the Tigers life in the SEC West. Today, AU made the most of the chance it was given, knocking off Alabama at home to give itself a shot at an SEC Championship. But how the Tigers pulled it off will go down as one of the most amazing finishes in college football history.

Alabama led 28-21 with under three minutes to play, but Tide kicker Cade Foster had a 44-yard field goal blocked – which gave the Tigers one last chance to tie the game in regulation. Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall was then able to find Sammie Coates for a 39-yard touchdown and it appeared as if the two teams were heading to overtime. That’s when things got crazy.

A.J. McCarron drove the Tide down the field quickly, and after an official booth review (which seemingly took forever) into whether running back T.J. Yeldon was out of bounds before regulation expired, Alabama had one second to try a 57-yard field goal. The rest, as they say, is history.

There was a ton of hype heading in to the Iron Bowl, and so far, I think it’s safe to say that the game has lived up to it. Several minutes into the fourth quarter, Alabama and Auburn were tied 21-21, but AJ McCarron decided that he’d had enough. Alabama backed up on its own 1-yard line, but McCarron found Amari Cooper streaking down the sideline, and the pair connected for a huge, momentum-swinging 99-yard touchdown.

Jonathon Mincy was beat in coverage, and Jermaine Whitehead couldn’t make the tackle:

Matt Barkley Responds To Datone Jones On Twitter With #FiftyToZero Hashtag sexandsecretss.blogspot.com

sexandsecretss.blogspot.com ® Matt Barkley Responds To Datone Jones On Twitter With #FiftyToZero Hashtag

Earlier today, we showed you a tweet from former UCLA defensive end Datone Jones, who proclaimed that one of his “best memories” as a Bruin was the play in 2012 in which Matt Barkley was injured by a monster hit from Anthony Barr. It was a terrible, totally classless tweet that he later deleted (you can still see it here ) after facing serious backlash.

Barkley himself saw the tweet, and responded to Jones with a shot of his own, although it was much more appropriate. He pointed to the scoreboard of the 2011 USC-UCLA matchup, which the Trojans won 50-0:

Point goes to Barkley.

You can catch this year’s battle between the two teams at 8:00 on ABC.

I’m not sure if Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall is looking to silence himself or the Alabama Crimson Tide today, but regardless, he’s wearing an arm bracelet with the hashtag #STFU at today’s Iron Bowl matchup. If it stands for what we think it stands for, it’s quite a statement to make. Here’s a photo, via SBNation:

He’s done his part so far for the Tigers – they lead 7-0 after the first quarter.

LeBron James has made himself a few enemies in the state of Ohio in his day, but he’s still a very big supporter of the state’s favorite college football team – Ohio State. James openly roots for the Buckeyes, which means that he also openly roots against the Michigan Wolverines. After UM’s failed attempt at a 2-point conversion that would have stolen a victory from the Bucks in Ann Arbor, James took a playful shot at the team on Twitter.

“Bish” is a lighter term for…well you can probably figure it out. Kendrick Lamar would be proud.

There is never any love lost between UCLA and USC. We are just a few hours away from the Battle for Los Angeles, and both teams are presumably chomping at the bit to get on the field.

Off the field, the trash talk is flying between the fan bases. Perhaps the worst shot fired has come from Datone Jones, a former Bruin now in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. He just tweeted “one of his best memories playing USC” and it’s totally not cool: it’s a photo of himself standing over an injured Matt Barkley:

The USC-UCLA rivalry is a great one, but it’s much better when there’s mutual respect — Jones should be embarrassed by this. And tagging USC’s football account in the tweet too? Just poor, poor sportsmanship.

Florida State freshman sensation Jameis Winston may be considered one of the most impressive young players in the nation, but that doesn’t mean he’s immune from making mental mistakes on the football field. Winston and his coach, Jimbo Fisher, got into an argument after some clock mismanagement in the fourth quarter of FSU’s victory over Florida Saturday afternoon. Fisher made his point known by grabbing Winston’s facemask in anger – check it out.

Despite the controversy, the Seminoles rolled the Gators and will play in the ACC Championship Game next week. Hopefully they’ll be on the same page by then.

Ohio State vs. Michigan has been spectacular so far, but it certainly isn’t because of the defense being played. Both teams tallied just over 300 yards offense in the first half, scoring a total of six touchdowns in the process. The most recent score came on a 21-yard scramble by OSU quarterback Braxton Miller, who was able to evade multiple defenders and scamper up the sideline to the end zone. Along the way, two Michigan defenders tackled each other by accident.

Amazingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen two players on the same team blocking each other. Fundamentals, anyone?

One of the football games that probably isn’t getting enough attention this week is Minnesota-Michigan State in East Lansing. While not really a rivalry at all, it is a matchup of two good football teams this year that are looking to finish the regular season strong.

Before the game, Golden Gophers head coach Jerry Kill gave a very cool speech to his team. He told them to play for each other, enjoy the moment (particularly the seniors), and that he loves each and every one of them:

I think most college football fans like Jerry Kill — it’s very hard not to love the guy.

While all of the attention has been on the boxing match football game in Ann Arbor, Florida State has been quietly blowing out Florida in The Swamp. Even if you’ve missed most of that game so far, there’s one play that you’ll see over and over again on the highlight shows tonight — Jameis Winston threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin, who broke about five tackles on his way to the endzone.

Ohio State-Michigan isn’t giving us what we all expected, but instead, so much more. While many predicted that the Buckeyes would roll, Michigan leads 21-14 early in the second quarter of a game in which we’ve already seen a number of crazy plays and even a big brawl between players .

After the fight that led to the ejection of three players (two from Ohio State, one from Michigan), Buckeye Marcus Hall made quite a dramatic exit to the locker room, flipping off the crowd in Ann Arbor:

Not a good look for OSU, but are we really surprised that tempers are flaring here? It’s the best rivalry in college football, the stakes in this game are enormous, and the game is already super competitive. We won’t be switching channels any time soon.

So much for Michigan rolling over and playing dead today against Ohio State. The Wolverines are taking it to the Buckeyes early, notching three touchdowns in just over one quarter of play thus far. Just after the latest score, numerous Buckeyes and Wolverines got into a mini-brawl on the field, resulting in three players being ejected from the game. It got a little crazy there for a bit.

We’ll see if the Buckeyes can regain their composure and hang on to their No. 3 BCS ranking – the Wolverines are looking to ruin their season today.

Well, we’ve got yet another crazy highlight involving Blake Griffin, but this one is a bit different than what you would normally see. Tonight against the Sacramento Kings, Griffin got posterized by Derrick Williams, who was making his debut in purple after being traded by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kings PG Greivis Vasquez lobbed it up to Williams, and Griffin took to the sky to beat Williams to the ball. Not often do players out-jump Blake, but that’s exactly what happened, and it was nasty.

Unfortunately for the Kings, the dunk was waved off due to a loose ball foul before the jam, but they did immediately throw another alley-oop to Williams on the following play, so it all worked out.

Is Bo Pelini’s time at Nebraska coming to an end? Pelini himself seems to think that there’s a decent chance, or at least he hears the talk. After losing 38-17 to Iowa this afternoon, the head coach was not pleased in his postgame press conference. First, he sounded off on the 15-yard unsportsmanslike conduct penalty he was given for swinging his hat at a ref:

He then was asked about his job and whether or not he is feeling any pressure:

The Cornhuskers finished the regular season with an 8-4 record. While that isn’t terrible, Nebraska fans certainly have higher expectations — it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Pelini gets let go here in the near future.

This afternoon, Butler took on No. 5 Oklahoma State down in Orlando for an awesome battle between undefeated basketball teams as part of the Old Spice Classic. The Cowboys got off to a hot start and were sitting comfortably at half, leading by 14, but Butler is a team that refuses to quit fighting. The Bulldogs battled all of the way back to give themselves a shot at the win in the game’s final seconds.

Coming off a missed Le’Bryan Nash free throw and trailing by two, Butler guard Elijah Brown brought the ball up the court and pulled up for what would have been the game-winning three. The only problem? The ball went backwards, as Oklahoma State Michael Cobbins blocked it into roughly the eighth row of the crowd:

…and another look at the awesome block:

With the win, Oklahoma State moves to 7-0 on the season. The Cowboys were paced by guard Marcus Smart, who had 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Bo Pelini is not having a great Black Friday. Today against Iowa, the Cornhuskers came out flat and found themselves in a 14-3 hole heading into halftime, much to the head coach’s displeasure. On his way to the locker room, Pelini was extremely short with reporter Quint Kessenich — unfortunately, his mood hasn’t changed much since the break.

Following a pass interference call against Nebraska, Pelini threw a fit on the sidelines, and nearly hit one referee with his hat in frustration. Of course, that led to a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, so it didn’t really help his cause. Here’s video:

Iowa is currently leading Nebraska 24-10 late in the 3rd quarter.

In all seriousness, OSU has a new tradition of cranking it “like a chainsaw” between the third and fourth quarters of home games. It’s just that this photo is, well, a little terrifying. It reminds me more of ‘Jason’ movie than a fun family gathering.

Brooklyn Nets head man Jason Kidd isn’t having the greatest debut in NBA coaching history. The Nets are off to a 4-11 start and seem to have chemistry issues both on the court and in the locker room. And if we’re to believe what seems obvious in the video below, Kidd may be getting punished by the league soon.

With his team trailing the Los Angeles Lakers by two points and out of timeouts, Kidd seems to whisper “hit me” to Tyshawn Taylor as he makes his way towards the bench before Jodie Meeks is about to shoot his final free throw attempt. Taylor’s bump causes Kidd to drop a drink onto the floor, thereby delaying the game. The incident gave the Nets a little extra time.

Meeks made his second attempt, and Paul Pierce got an open look at a potential game-tying 3-pointer, but the ball rattled out.

What do you think? Was Kidd trying to get his team a defacto timeout so he could draw up a play, or is this being blown out of proportion? The video seems pretty telltale, but we’ll see what the league has to say later this week.
