Video: Auburn Returns Missed FG Try For Touchdown On Final Play, Knocks Off No. 1 Alabama
Two weeks ago, Auburn knocked off Georgia on a 73-yard “Hail Mary” play that gave the Tigers life in the SEC West. Today, AU made the most of the chance it was given, knocking off Alabama at home to give itself a shot at an SEC Championship. But how the Tigers pulled it off will go down as one of the most amazing finishes in college football history.
Alabama led 28-21 with under three minutes to play, but Tide kicker Cade Foster had a 44-yard field goal blocked – which gave the Tigers one last chance to tie the game in regulation. Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall was then able to find Sammie Coates for a 39-yard touchdown and it appeared as if the two teams were heading to overtime. That’s when things got crazy.
A.J. McCarron drove the Tide down the field quickly, and after an official booth review (which seemingly took forever) into whether running back T.J. Yeldon was out of bounds before regulation expired, Alabama had one second to try a 57-yard field goal. The rest, as they say, is history.
