With the expected impending departure of head coach Charlie Strong to Texas, Louisville fans are beginning to weigh their options for his replacement. One name that has been bandied about around the Internet a bit: former Louisville and current Western Kentucky head coach Bobby Petrino.
One enterprising fan took this to the next level, hanging a sign that reads “Bring Back Bobby” on the Louisville Student Activities Center, the building that houses athletic director Tom Jurich’s office:
Petrino, who led the Hilltoppers to an 8-4 record in his first season at WKU this year, was 41-9 in four years at Louisville, capped off with a 2007 Orange Bowl win over ACC champion Wake Forest.
While Petrino has built a bad reputation as someone who jumps from job to job quickly, not to mention the scandal that led to his ouster at Arkansas, he is a proven commodity who previously helped build the Louisville program and had as much if not more success than Strong in his tenure.
Jurich will host a press conference at noon today, where many expect that he will give an update about the state of the Cardinals football program.
